Memorial Weekend Day #3

Tubing in the Delaware River/Amish Country
It was really fun and took about
3 hours. We stopped in the middle
of the river for the famous Hot Dog Man.
Couldn't take too many photos because
fortunately we didn't take the camera
tubing. Otherwise, we might have lost
it. As it was, Dave lost his shoes when
he got flipped going through one of the rapids.
We stopped at a pharmacy and got some plastic flip flops for Dave. I had decided to maximize the day, and although it was already afternoon when we finished tubing, I'd heard Amish country was not too far off. So out we headed for Lancaster, Pennsylvania. We got lost along the way, but not before we spotted some Amish along the road.

We spotted several horse and buggies on the way. We found an "Amish Farmhouse" which was fortunately still open - we made the last tour of the day.

Headgear.

We ended up having a feast at one of the farmhouses. No kidding when they said it was "all you can eat". I enjoyed trying new foods like apple butter, garlic cabbage, ham meatloaf and homemade sausages, yum!

Memorial Weekend Day #2

Catskills Mountains

Overlook Mountain House (the remaining ruins),
built in 1871 is nearly at the top of the hike,
As I was sweating at the beginning of the hike up
the mountain all I could think of was how did they
get everything up here in the first place?

Along the way, Dave stopped to see one of the butterflies. The name of the trail comes from the amazing

view at the top "overlooking" the mountains. It

was awesome, so we took some pics!

More views from the top. Although quite tired after the hike, we decided

to go find a lake or a river or something. The lakes we found, while

beautiful were either privately owned or had big "don't trespass"

signs. So we settled on one of the rivers on the side of the road. Saffron is jumping along the pebbles.

Memorial Day Weekend Day #1

Cape May, New Jersey Everyone's smiling at the beach :)
Saffron goes for a swim!
Saffron's sunning herself on the blanket.
Heading out for a beach hike.
Saffron brings us a treat - a newly caught dogshark
(discarded by fishermen). Yes there ARE sharks
in New Jersey!
We also found several horseshoe crabs
of varying sizes that got stranded on the beach
and ended up sea gull food. This one was
still alive and kicking, so Dave flipped it over.

And voila! It went back into the ocean(it slides

along the sand in a very unusual way). Hurray for Dave

the horseshoe crab saver!
